Introduction to Chris Jones

Prepare yourself for a new level of entertainment. To see an accomplished guitarist perform is one thing, but to see that same guitarist perform on three instruments at once is certainly a step away from the ordinary. Using a custom built, one of a kind multiple guitar stand, phrase looping technology and only the finest instruments, Chris Jones serves up an evening of music that covers an amazing spectrum of styles including raucous Texas blues, beach favorites, Reggae, hybrid finger style guitar and good old Rock and Roll.

Jones picked up the guitar at age ten and was immediately drawn to the unmistakable sounds of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. Being a quick study, Chris could be found performing at festivals and various venues around his home town of Branchville, South Carolina by the age of fifteen. After a love affair with Rock and Roll and Texas blues, Jones became enamored with finger style guitar. The sweet melodic lines of Chet Atkins, the speed of Tommy Emmanuel and the patented thump of Merle Travis sent Chris soaring down another musical path. These styles have converged to create a radically inventive and powerful sound. Chris has recently been performing this style of music for theaters and arts councils around the South. His current schedule has him performing around 300 shows annually.

The primary instrument that Jones uses is a custom G&L Telecaster which is equipped with a synthesizer pickup that allows him the ability to accurately reproduce virtually any instrument in existence.

Chris uses a device called a “phrase sampler,” which he operates with his feet, to record and overdub his guitars and vocals live. He may start a song on his trusty Fender bass, work his way over to the acoustic guitar and then end up with his Telecaster in hand by the end of the same song. Chris does all of this while layering in vocal harmonies and blistering hot harmonica solos. All of these layers are performed live and culminate into a sound so big that if you close your eyes, you would swear that there is a five piece band rockin’. But don’t close your eyes for a second … you’ll miss something.
